After an absence of 3 months due to national lockdown, the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series gets the green light to return to the Nelson Mandela Bay beachfront within certain limitations.

The Metro has insisted the event can only return on the basis that it moves to Kings Beach and that spectators are not permitted to attend the event. Following the reopening of beaches post lockdown, the Metro are concerned about public congestion and feel Kings Beach could ensure better enforcement of social distancing by race organisers, Zsports Events SA.

"Finally our Metro is starting to open up the event industry again and it's now a game of catch-up as we try and recover as many of the 5 race days which we've lost in Season 16 in the safest way possible,"  said Zsports owner Michael Zoetmulder.

During lockdown Zsports have invested in improved digital apps and timing equipment to ensure their event registration is safe, simple and secure. The use of the FinishTime Passport mobile app ensures a fast and paperless registration or check-in on event days whilst also recording all the necessary Covid screening questions.

Sunday's return of the aQuellé ORS sees all 7 races taking place on Kings Beach with the 5km Beach Run/Walk getting to take advantage of the beautiful sands with a 2 lap, all sand, stretch whilst the swimmers will enjoy a rectangular anti-clockwise 1km lap swim for their 1km, 2km and 3km swims. The 400m swimmers will get to complete the shallow section of the rectangular course.

Unfortunately in Covid Level-1 restrictions no prize giving is permitted but lucky draw prizes will be available on the morning based on random finishers positions and collected by the participants as they walk out the event area. Up for grabs is over R5,000 is awesome prizes including R2,000 in Greenacres Shopping Centre Vouchers, R600 Birch's clothing voucher and great hampers from the many supporters of the Ocean Racing Series.

The event is unfortunately only restricted to Series/Premier members with no signing up permitted on the morning of the event. To join the Series and secure your Series number for Season 16, it's just R50 through the Zsports website. Check-in on Sunday morning is only possible with the FinishTime Passport App and will open at Kings Beach from 07h30. Racing starts at 9am.

Results are automatically posted on the website so followers can see this from the comfort of their own home whilst pictures from the morning, taken by Oracle Media, will be posted on the Zsports gallery as soon as possible post event.

Zsports are appealing for adherence to the NO SPECTATORS RULE for this event and that participants come down to Kings Beach on their own to take part. For further information please see
