Animal Welfare to host their annual Shelter Sleepover Event – with a difference

13 Nov 2020 10:34

This year’s event, to be held on 28 November, is expected to have about 50 participants all of whom will sleep in an animal shelter!  More people could participate but Animal Welfare has a limited number of shelters.

Thanks to the coronavirus and the advent of digital experiences, a Virtual Sleepover for unlimited participants is available too.

Cynthea van Rhijn, the Fundraiser for Animal Welfare, says, “We are we are appealing to a global public to become involved as they will be sleeping over at their own homes with their own pets in solidarity with the homeless pets waiting to be adopted from the shelter.”

The Shelter Sleepover is taking place at the Animal Welfare Society PE premises in Victoria Drive, Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

Cynthea says that last year they managed to raise just over R250 000, which was used towards the purchase of a gently used bakkie for the Animal Inspection team.

“We’d love to match or better last year’s total and funding raised will be going towards Veterinary expenses to treat animals at our Hospital, Surgery and Clinic,” addsCynthea.

This will be the fourth Shelter Sleepover Event at the Animal Welfare Society in Port Elizabeth.
